This research aims to help identify one of the modern issues in public management, which is that of green leadership behavior, looking into its conceptual roots in governmental organizations. We investigate green leadership as a contemporary managerial strategy to drive environmental sustainability. In order to accomplish the research aims, the research took analytic-theoretical approach, which is a general method of conducting conceptual and philosophical study. The study drew on academic literature, international reports, and prior empirical studies related to green leadership and environmental management. A number of findings of the study were drawn, but the first and foremost of these was that limited green leadership studies in Arab literature that compare to foreign studies exist, despite the increasing environmental challenges facing public organizations in Iraq. Therefore, the study suggests the necessity to carry out more explicit theoretical and applied research into managerial green leadership and the integration of environmental values into leadership development programs in governmental institutions.
